We call recipients in the human world, surrogates. Our little boy Phinn was born via the help of a surrogate. It is a journey not for the faint hearted and is littered with failure. The same goes for ET (Embryo Transfer) in cattle. The preparation of the recipient is costly and labour intensive. There are no guarantees that the outcome will be a pregnant cow. There are many processes that need to be managed as well as a variety of issues that can affect the outcome. We understand that many have mastered this skill, however many others crash and burn when they travel down this path.
Temple Mount Farm offers guaranteed PTIC (Pregnant tested in Calf ) recipients with the most interesting genetics from Canada and Australia.
You may ask, why would you buy a recipient over purchasing embryos and undertaking the process? It is a big process. It requires the souring of a suitable recipient cow, exceptional cattle yards, as well as in depth understanding of the pre and post transfer regimes. Management of stress and nutrition for the cow, a great deal of time and it is also not inexpensive to undertake. If it fails and the cow does not get pregnant, all costs including the cost of the embryo, often in the thousands, are thrown away and you must commence the whole process over again.
You may also ask why purchase recipients over buying a registered Speckle Park at an auction? Cost is a big factor. The best of the breed are rarely sold into the market and when they are, they can command eye watering results. In fact, currently the prices being achieved for registered Speckle Park with great bloodlines are far higher than the cost of a PTIC Recipient.
Apart from cost, the main advantage is twofold. The first advantage is obviously time as within 6 months of receiving your recipients on farm, you will have beautiful little calves born on farm. Secondly these calves having been born on your property are then able to be registered with your own stud prefix, fast tracking you own stud heard. If you are a breeder looking to expand your stud and the genetics we have fit into your program, or you are new to Speckle Park and want to establish a heard in an economical and speedy manor, Temple Mount may have the solution.
